'Off the hook' aims to replace existing fishing lures that use hooks in order to help reduce fish harm and make lures more sustainable and empathetic by prioritising fish as users.

My role
The grocery shopping experience can be stressful, with managing grocery lists, sorting food waste in the kitchen, trying to locate items in the store, and making sure to stick to a budget.
Current services do not provide a holistic system that helps create a simpler shopping and meal prep experience.

I sent out a survey on a reddit fishing forum with questions that will help me understand what fishers enjoy about fishing, whether they believe that fish feel pain and what features are essential when buying new gear.

In order to understand the fishing experience better, I went fishing with a professional fisher who explained the different types of gear and how to use them. Furthermore, I also wanted to find out what exactly the ‘fight’ felt like and how sensitive and significant the gear is in creating the perfect experience.

I iterated models and 3D printed them out using resin, TPU and PLA in order to test out different forms, locking mechanisms and materials. These prototypes helped me better understand the functionality and effectiveness.
After various iterations, I 3D printed different sizes of the model according to current bait sizes to ensure the design works as intended in the standard sizes.

As there are different types of baits for different kinds of fish, I modelled out the 'Off the hook' versions to make sure the design works for the various kinds of fish that fishers want to catch.
